Manufacturing dashboards: OEE, downtime, MTTR and cost of production
For production and maintenance managers I build a dashboard that shows where capacity is lost: which equipment stops most, which shift is behind, where scrap comes from and what each stoppage costs.
Best for: Plant managers, production managers, maintenance managers and CEOs of manufacturing companies.
What does it show?
A manufacturing dashboard brings production, downtime and scrap records together:
- OEE and its three parts: availability, performance and quality
- Net downtime per shift on a timeline, without double-counting overlapping alarms
- MTTR and MTBF down to a single piece of equipment
- Output and each shift’s and person’s share against plan
Real delivered work
I have built a production line downtime dashboard and a production staff performance dashboard for a real plant. In the portfolio you can watch the walkthrough of each and read the full write-up (with fictitious data).
From downtime to money
Once downtime hours are linked to lost capacity and cost of production, the maintenance and improvement budget goes exactly where it frees up the most capacity.
What you receive
- An OEE and output dashboard by line, shift and product
- A downtime dashboard with an equipment tree and stop reasons
- MTTR and MTBF metrics
- Scrap and cost of production analysis
- A weekly review routine for the production manager

Our downtime is logged on paper or in Excel. Can we start?
Yes. Excel logs are used directly; if it is on paper, we design a simple Excel log so data is collected from this month on.
What is OEE and why does it matter?
OEE shows what share of planned time was actually spent making good product at standard speed. One number captures breakdowns, slow running and scrap together.
Can it connect to our CMMS or MES?
If your system exports to Excel or CSV, or gives database access, yes.
Which industries is it suited to?
Any continuous or mass production, such as paper and packaging, food, chemicals, plastics and parts manufacturing.
